Therapy and Specialties

Each person is unique not only in their life experience and worldview, but in their goals for therapy.  According to my client’s individual need, motivations for therapy, and time commitment, we will mutually determine a treatment plan to best meet their treatment goals.

My areas of clinical specialty include:

Pregnancy and New Mothers

Whether you are anticipating becoming pregnant, currently pregnant or a new mother, the emotional needs women experience during this life experience often surpass expectation.  As exciting as this transition in life is, it can also be a time of anxiety, confusion, and an opportunity for the expectant mother’s internal baby to make its voice known.  Therapy during this time can not only provided much needed support for a new or expectant mother, but allow her to feel increased closeness and emotional attachment to her baby.

Grief and Loss

There is no right or wrong way to grieve.  Grief is the normal and expected reaction to a significant loss or death. However, the array of emotions which are experiences when grieving, can be frightening and overwhelming.  Most people will experience a significant loss at different points in their lives, and it can be difficult for many to tolerate others going through the grieving process.  This can leave the person grieving feeling isolated, alone and that they are not “grieving correctly.”

Personal Development and Life Transitions

One of the most fruitful times for therapy is when there is no crisis and the goal is personal development, increased self-awareness, and transitions into a new phase of life.  Psychotherapy can focus on developing a deeper understanding of oneself, increasing feelings of competence, learning to manage daily stress and anxiety, developing stronger interpersonal relationships, and finding a sense of purpose in one’s life.
